Reading Wednesday | The Reckoning at Gossamer Pond

I loved The House on Foster Hill, so when I learned that Jaime Jo Wright was coming out with a second book, I jumped at the chance to read it. The Reckoning at Gossamer Pond is a page-turning tale that mixes history, suspense, and romance. Written in the same style as The House on Foster Hill, it follows two women who, though living in separate centuries, have their lives woven together by an obituary and two tent revivalists.

Annalise Forsythe has hidden a painful secret for years, but when she inherits a rundown trailer, she embarks on solving a mystery that puts her life further in danger. Could the past she must unravel reach through time and reveal the secrets she has kept close to her heart? 20180725_080041

Libby Sheffield is the daughter of a newspaper publisher. Born a century before Annalise, Libby also carries a dark secret. When she finds the father of her friend dead after receiving his obituary at the newspaper, she works to solve a case the police think is only a suicide.

Jaime is a master at weaving these two stories together, revealing just enough information to inform the other story while also leaving the reader wanting to learn just a little bit more. With Edgar Allen Poe as an inspiration, the story takes on the dark tones found in his work. This isn’t a story that is always best read right before bed. Then again, it will also keep you reading well past your bedtime.

For a story that tackles the power of secrets, reveals the multi-faceted nature of the tent revivals of the early 1900s, and shows the interweaving effect of a small town newspaper, The Reckoning at Gossamer Pond is for you.
