Book Review | A Life Once Dreamed

Travel back to the Dakota Territory in A Life Once Dreamed by Rachel Fordham. 1880 frontier life was not for the timid, but Agnes Pratt fought her way into the hearts and lives of Penance anyway, only to have her past catch up to her when the new doctor comes to town.

James Harris does not know why Agnes canceled their engagement and disappeared six years ago, but he hasn’t loved another woman since. When he finally learns where she ran away to and discovers an opening for a new doctor in her town, he knows God had provided a way for him to get his answers. However, Agnes doesn’t exactly see things that way.

Agnes has a secret, the reason she left James. Whether he can coax it from her seems unlikely. When a baby is orphaned and Agnes takes him in, the little boy may be the key to unlocking the past and the future.

I loved this book! Those who’ve followed my blog for long know I have a soft spot for historical fiction, but this book will wheedle its way into that tender spot, then threaten to take your heart with it. And it’s all because of Baby Freddie.

There was so much to love about the story. From James’ emotional ways to Agnes’ memories. From the mayor’s nosiness to the Hannah and Minnie’s love of their friend. And of course the old legend in town.

I haven’t read a book by Rachel Fordham until this one, but I know she has published two others. Those are both now on my TBR list. It’s always a delight to find a new author to enjoy and another story that touches the heart.

I received this book free from Revell in order to provide an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
