Book Review | The Escape

The Escape by Lisa Harris is the first book in her new US Marshals series. What should be a straightforward transport for US Marshals Madison James and Jonas Quinn turns out to be anything but when their plane goes down in the middle of the wilderness. Now they have to track down their missing prisoner before he escapes for good.

Madison is still grieving the death of her husband several years previous, but gladly takes the transport assignment instead of sitting at home on the anniversary of her husband’s death. Jonas recently returned home and, not wanting to waste time settling in, jumps at the chance to take an assignment. Jonas trained Madison when she was a new marshal and the mutual respect they had for one another then makes them grateful to work together now. Especially when everything goes sideways.

I love wilderness stories, so I greatly enjoyed the first portion of The Escape. I wished for much more depth and intrigue within the uncharted forest area because, as the fugitive continued to allude the marshals, drawing them from wilderness to civilization, the story didn’t keep my attention quite as well as I hoped. Madison and Jonas themselves were interesting characters and I liked reading about them. I just wanted to see more of them in survival mode. But that’s my type of story preference and the beginning of The Escape gave me just enough taste of it that I wanted more.

Without giving any spoilers, the type of series, where the main characters, in this case Madison and Jonas, appear in the second book in a series as well as the first, is one of my favorite type of romantic series. A long arc love story can seem deeper and realistic when covering more ground. From the back copy of book two, The Chase, it appears Madison and Jonas are partnering again and I’m excited to see where that partnership takes them!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with FTC guidelines.
